Greg Polson previews Kembla at Goulburn Thursday March 23

With the transferring of the Bede Murray Provincial Championships Qualifier (1400m) to Goulburn on Thursday and the scratching of the favourite Echo Effect an upset result is on the cards.

Connections of the likes of Louie Sea Kay from the Gwenda Markwell yard and the Stephen Hill-trained Brothers In Arms would have been targeting the race on their home track but now face the prospect of trying to qualify for the final away from Kembla.

Indeed, not one horse that remains in the field after scratchings has raced at Goulburn so the probability of an upset result has increased dramatically.

Here's a couple of horses that can run big races at huge odds.

Brothers In Arms would have carried some of my money at Kembla and I am sticking with him at Goulburn.

Brother In Arms showed plenty of promise last preparation winning twice at Kembla with both wins having a touch of class about them.

Brother In Arms contested the Hawkesbury Qualifier and the run looked like a pipe-opener for Kembla.

No doubt Brother In Arms would have been primed for a big showing at Kembla and will be over the odds despite the race being run at Goulburn.

The Phillip Courtney-trained Maryore is another that would have targeted the Kembla Qualifier second-up.

A Canterbury winner second-up last preparation Maryore finished on the placegetters heels at Warwick Farm resuming and as the winner of three races on soft tracks will have conditions to order on Thursday.

It is hard to tip anything with confidence at Goulburn with the change of venue but at the odds Brother In Arms and Maryore are worth a punt.

MATE STORY

Jean Van Overmeire (a3)

Very good run. I’d like to see how he goes against stronger company over that distance now. Today was easy company and he got it his own way. He’s a horse that has a high cruising speed. Good win.

2nd

FUI SAN

Jason Collett

Every hope, just couldn’t run down the leader.

3rd

ROYAL VILLA

Rachel King (a1.5)

A pretty good run stepping up to Highway grade. Back over a similar distance he’ll be hard to beat.

SO IT IS

Blaike McDougall (a2)

She just wanted to wander about in the straight then surged again late.

5th

CLIFF

Josh Adams

A good credible run in a race that was probably going to suit leaders, nothing took me into the race but he toughed it out well.

6th

MORNING MUSIC

Blake Spriggs

She improved again. I’d expect she’ll be competitive over 2000m in the bush again.

NOT BOSSY

A bit disappointing, never really travelled.

LADY GUISSEL

Beautiful run, travelled well, put under pressure on the turn but is probably looking for a mile.

Three to follow from Aaron Mills March 18

William Pike only bagged three winners at Ascot on Saturday but that was enough to keep punters happy. Photo: Ascot Racecourse

Perth's premier hoop William Pike booted home three winners at Ascot on Saturday and everything was right with the world.

The track appeared to race fairly with winners coming from in front and the tail in spite of the same pad of grass hosting 184 starters across two days as a warm up for the back-to-back meetings scheduled for Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

INFATHUATED
I reckon all Warwick-trained runners can be followed with confidence in the coming months as the stable appears to be striking top form, although this strong gelding looks one of the standouts. Racing fourth-up on Saturday after three solid showings this time in work, the winner of seven races camped outside the leader in a solidly-run race and just kept kicking in the straight to record a comfortable victory despite giving weight to the rest of the field. The son of Fath has never been tried beyond 1700 metres however the way he outstayed rivals in the run to the line suggests scope to step out over a little further. Just needs to find the right race because as a now 85-rater he's stuck in no man's land between Benchmark 72+ company and open class.
Career record (24:7-4-4)
Race to look for – Benchmark 72+ with a good apprentice on board or Benchmark 78+ 1400-1800m

AMONGSTGOODCOMPANY
Many wondered whether connections had been shipped some of those special mushrooms that have bobbed up all over the east coast during the recent deluge by attempting an open three-year-old race with a two-start maiden but they must have been happy with the outcome. After getting well back and coming under pressure on the turn, cameras didn't even pick up this Ben Pearce-trained filly in the straight until the concluding stages when she was seen making good steady ground through the line. The daughter of Encosta De Lago still has a bit to learn and will take great improvement out of that race against winners before she lines up in something a little easier. Won't be a maiden for much longer.
Career record (3:0-0-1)
Race to look for – Maiden 1600m

SEANNIE
Lost no admirers for the upcoming Karrakatta plate despite suffering her first defeat on Saturday. After stepping a little slowly and getting back to last from the widest barrier she was always going to struggle to make up the ground, especially with Perth's best jockey William Pike riding a perfect race closer to the speed aboard eventual winner Kiss Bang Love. Seannie reeled off her final 600 metres in 34.5 seconds after the leaders set a solid tempo early – two lengths faster than the winner did and panels better than anything else in the race – and if able to settle a pair or two closer in the big one it's hard to see anything holding her out. Currently trading at $3 for that race which seems a reasonable price and while we're at it we can have a saver on Wacked Out which won the boy's lead-up in good time. $31 looks overs.
Career record (3:2-0-1)
Race to look for – Karrakatta Plate 1200m on April 1
